VOR Radio aims to enhance social, political and cultural cohesion in Sri Lanka through digital media productions. This is a project of the Centre for Policy Alternatives, Colombo, Sri Lanka in partnership with the IMPACS, Canada, with initial funding from CIDA and AusAID.
 
 
 
 
 

About Us

VOR Radio is part of the Voices of Reconciliation project conducted by the Centre for Policy Alternatives.

VOR Radio will feature cutting-edge radio programming from a variety of civil society organisations and ongoing broadcast radio initiatives in Sri Lanka, national as well as provincial, with programmes focussing on the areas of democracy, governance, peace and reconciliation.

By creating a single archive of civil society radio productions in Sri Lanka, VOR Radio aims to give greater visibility to digital media productions that can strengthen the peace process.

VOR Radio acknowledges the support provided by the Institute for Media, Policy and Civil Society, as well as CIDA and AusAID, in setting up its operations and website.

Lifeline, Providing Humanitarian Information to IDPs

DURATION: 30 min

STATIONS: Every Saturday morning 6.00am to 8.00am through Sooriyan FM (Colombo and Down South 103.2 FM, Island wide 97.9 ,North and East 97.3 Jaffna 97 FM ) and Sunday 13.30-14.00pm through Pirai FM (102 FM - Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara through).

Lifeline provides essential humanitarian information to communities affected by the conflict or by natural disasters in Sri Lanka through media productions, radio and print productions. It covers aid efforts by Government agencies and national and international Non-Government Organizations. Programming includes information on relief efforts and services available to those affected by the conflict, and changes or updates to government policies and humanitarian operations. With a strong emphasis on including the voices of displaced communities, Lifeline also focuses on health, education, gender issues, child protection, and other areas impacting on people's lives.

Lifeline is broadcast in Tamil on select regional radio stations, and reproduced in print for direct distribution to targeted areas. Lifeline is produced by Internews Network, an international organization working to improve access to information for people in more than 40 countries around the world.
